On Degreeworks, you’ll find a section that says “Fordham College Rose Hill Placement” Or “Placement: Fordham College Lincoln Center.” There will be a bullet that reads “English Composition” and next to it will read “Still needed: 1 Class in ENGL 1101,” if you are place in Comp 1. If you are placed in Comp 2, it will read “Still needed: 1 Class in ENGL 1102.”

Yes, if you feel comfortable with your writing abilities. Professors will have a low-stakes first assignment that will help you gauge what class is right for you once the semester starts.

If you feel that your writing needs exercising, Comp 1 will help you prepare to take Comp 2. Know that Comp 1 is not a required course towards your degree but you will get credit for it. Comp 2 is a required course for every student at Fordham University.

AP credit generally counts for elective courses at Fordham. It will not count towards Comp 2. See out AP Credit policy via the following link:

We rarely accept college credit received in high school to count for Composition 2. Reach out to your advisor to assess your case. If you are not assigned an advisor, and you are an incoming Rose Hill student, contact FCRHfirstyear@fordham.edu. If you are an incoming Lincoln Center campus student without an advisor, contact FCLC_Advising@fordham.edu.

Indicate your interest in the English Placement survey as soon as possible. Advanced Composition is a course for students who are very passionate about writing and the course will count towards your English Core Curriculum requirement. Our Advanced Composition sections have very limited capacity, so make sure to submit your survey as soon as possible.
