Ramily
~ Isabel Cooney
Throughout my 4 years at Fordham, I had always found the term “Ramily” to be a bit cringeworthy. But I guess I didn’t really understand the meaning of it. Because after participating in Seeds of Success, “Ramily” feels like the only accurate word to describe what took place. The coming together of a family of artists.
Before the project began, I felt a pressure to have my whole life figured out. I was petrified at the idea of graduating from Fordham and actually having to enter the real world. There were so many question marks surrounding my career path. I had (and still have) no idea what I want to do next. But after meeting with 3 different alumni, all at different stages of their careers, I am finally able to exhale. They reassured me that it is okay, and in fact, normal to not have everything figured out. Because the truth is, most people don’t.
They also taught me that at the end of the day, all that matters is that you show up for yourself consistently. You have to be confident. Be bold. Even if it feels like you’re pretending, it’ll become easier and easier until it simply becomes a lifestyle. There are so many people who want to help you, starting with our CW alumni. All you have to do is ask!
Even though my future is still unsure, I can now take comfort in knowing that I have a “Ramily” of wonderful writers that are ready to welcome me with open arms post grad.
