Fordham PhD Appointed ACLS/Mellon Public Fellow

Samantha Sabalis, PhD ’17, was recently appointed as ACLS/Mellon Public Fellow for 2018-2020. Her position is as Development Officer with the Council of Independent Colleges in Washington, DC. The Council of Independent Colleges is an association of over 600 nonprofit, independent colleges and universities that provides support for college and university leadership and offers resources for improving and promoting a liberal arts education. This position involves grant-writing to support CIC's programs for its members, as well as project management for initiatives focused on the public humanities, the teaching of philosophy at small liberal arts colleges, and the fostering of diversity and inclusion on campuses through the teaching of the liberal arts. 
    
As Development Officer, Samantha draws on her passion for the advancement of the humanities as well as the range of skills she developed as a PhD student at Fordham, such as persuasive writing for different audiences, synthesizing research, and collaboration with stakeholders inside and outside academia.
