First Thing professional development event of 2024-25 kicks off on Wednesday, November 6!
The First Thing Professional Development Series will begin on Wednesday, November 6.
The series will focus on teaching first-year writing and explore new directions in composition and rhetoric paying special attention to Fordham’s student body. Join us as select faculty from the Fordham Writing Program will share their experience teaching a particular theme or strategy and showcase their unique strengths, expertise, and experiences. This series allows us to come together as a community of teacher-scholars engaged with the changing landscape of writing and undergraduate education.
For this session, Fordham faculty members, Dr. Elisabeth Buck, Dr. Kirk Quinsland, and Leanna McLennan will join Dr. Rebecca Hallman Martini (University of Georgia) for a cross-institutional conversation on the emerging issues of the now ubiquitous use of generative AI tools. The session will explore these challenges and offer strategies for responding to this new development in how we teach and work with student writing. A Q&A will follow the conversation, and the event will take place over Zoom and the LITE Center in Walsh Library at Rose Hill on Wednesday, November 6, from 12:00-1:30 pm.
