FCLC Student Attends Poets Forum

Last spring, I won the Academy of American Poets Award through the Fordham Creative Writing Department. After receiving this honor, I was lucky enough to attend The Academy of American Poets Poets Forum on
October 26th.

Naomi Shihab-Nye spoke about how to make poetry more accessible by making it “contagious”and Juan Felipe Herrera  emphasized putting words on the page, and not worrying about making Poetry, but instead producing “a stack of pancakes” and “a stack of poems.”

Other topics of the day included the “Practices of Ecopoetics,” “Inspiration and Experimentation,” and “American Poets Abroad.” The discussions left audience members visibly inspired and with a new “to read” list, which is, to me, the best way to leave any discussion of poetry.
